Steps That You Need To Consider
Given below are some steps that will guide you more perfectly.
Step 1: Fill out an application for an Emirates ID
The first and foremost step is to get your Emirates ID application typed from an authorized and registered typing center in the UAE. The typing service might charge you some fees. But if you want to save money, you can refer to the second option, i.e., you can have your document typed at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) website: icp.gov.ae. Furthermore, the documents you need for your Emirates ID renewal are as follows:
- Recently clicked colored photo.
- Front and back copies of your passport
- Copy of a resident visa
- Front and back copies of your old Emirate ID
Note: Issuing a new Emirates ID might take up to five business working days. Once your Emirates ID is printed and ready to collect, you will receive a notification via email and SMS. You can then collect your new Emirates ID from the nearest post office.
Step 2: You must pass a medical fitness test
Once you’re through with applying for your new Emirates ID, The next step is to take the medical fitness test.
Note: A medical fitness test is mandatory for all UAE residents’ visa renewals.
The main purpose of this medical fitness test is to ensure that UAE residents are free from all communicable diseases such as HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and TB (tuberculosis). To get this test done, you can visit your nearest government-operated medical fitness center. Furthermore, the documents that you may need for the fitness test are as follows:
- A copy of your valid passport
- A copy of your valid Emirates ID.
- Recent photograph with a white background
- A copy of your Emirates ID application form (this form depends on which Emirate you are applying to)
In addition, the results of your medical fitness test will be notified to you via SMS and email. According to MOHAP, the medical fitness certificate will be sent via courier to you,

Step 3: You must renew your resident permit
According to the recent announcement made by ICP on May 16, residence UAE visa stickers will no longer be placed on passports. The Emirates ID cards will now be considered more important than the residence visa stickers. This means that Emirates ID cards will now be the primary proof of residency in the UAE.
Once you receive your medical fitness certificate via courier, you can now apply for your residence visa renewal. If you have renewed the permit online, the registered courier company will pick up your passport from the address that you have provided on the application form. But if the process is completed by an immigration center, you will then have to submit your passport at the company’s courier center. Furthermore, here are some of the documents you may need to submit for UAE residence visa renewal.
- A recent white-background photograph
- Passport photocopy
- Certificate of Medical Fitness
- Application for Emirates ID
- Health Insurance or a Health Card
Step 4: You can now collect your renewed emirates id and passport
Once the visa application has been approved, you will receive your passport and Emirates ID. The authorized courier company will deliver the following documents to you.
